We are so pleased to announce our partnership with The McCall Pattern Company to bring Clever Charlotte patterns to JoAnn Stores across the nation! We've been working with the fine folks at The McCall Pattern Company to expand our reach to sewers across the Nation. Not only are our patterns available on the McCall's Website, they are also available at your nearest JoAnn Store!
Lucky for me I had to look no further than Clever Charlotte's Raven and Orchid Patterns! I used a modified Raven Hoodie to create the Hogwarts Cape, similar to a cape I made and blogged about a few years back. In addition to the modifications outlined in the previous blog post, I added a 2"center back pleat to add fullness to the garment. This was super easy to accomplish by adjusting the layout of the center back pattern piece 1" away from the fold.
Making the skirt for the costume required no modifications to the Orchid Skirt Pattern. While Hermione's costume in the movies is much more heavily pleated, I thought the Orchid was close enough.
Someone is excited to start Kindergarten! To celebrate the occasion I sewed up an Orchid Top & Skirt this week.
I chose a nice sky blue corduroy for the skirt and paired it with some vintage fabric I found at a house sale over the summer. Love those house sales.
I love the classic look of this outfit for back-to-school. My daughter loves it too since it doesn't inhibit her balancing act.
I chose simple white buttons for the back placket so as not to distract from the bold pattern in the blouse.
Now that schooldays are upon us, are you, too, back at your sewing machine??
Happy holidays from the ladies of Clever Charlotte. It has been a busy season for us, though you wouldn't know it by the lack of blog posts. Here is a quick update on some terrific reviews of our skirt patterns by Skirt Fixation.

I finally found a moment to sew up a Peony Party Pattern Shrug for my little Wren. I so wish she would have been invited to be a flower girl at a wedding this summer, but alas, her uncle remains unhitched. Nevertheless, I thought it a good idea to show you all what a nice little shrug it can be for any dressy occasion this summer and fall.
I embellished the pattern with a little pleating detail around the edges. To go with it, I also made a linen Orchid Skirt, also trimmed out with a little pleating detail.
This skirt will be white and relatively wrinkle-free for another 5 minutes. I had high hopes to finish the front closure with a cute little metal toggle I found, but the photographic opportunity presented itself before I could finish that final touch. I sewed Wren into the shrug.
Aside from the pleating, the shrug really only takes a half hour to cut and sew!
Wren says, "Take our Peony Shrug out for a spin!"
Sometimes it's tough to tell exactly how a pattern will sew up until you can see it on a live model. Well, here are some of the cutest models we know sporting our new Orchid Top and Skirt.
A quick announcement to let you know that the Orchid Top and Skirt Pattern is now shipping.
We are happy to announce that our newest pattern, Orchid, is now in the shop and we are accepting pre-orders.
Now through January 5th, you can also get 20% off all other Clever Charlotte patterns!
See our original post announcing Orchid by clicking here.
For our cover look, we used a plum poplin for the top and a quilting cotton for the bow. The top has raglan sleeves and if you look closely at the photo above, you can just see the shoulder dart we've added to provide a nice soft curve.
The skirt is a medium weight poly brocade in a funky gold and silver weave for an overall sophisticated look. When selecting a fabric for the skirt, we recommend choosing a medium-to-heavy weight fabric that will hold a good crease.
A few things about Pre-Orders and Our New Year's Sale:
1. We currently anticipate mailing out the first shipment of patterns the week of January 6th, but we cannot guarantee the exact ship date yet. We pride ourselves on fast turn-around times for all our orders and pre-orders are no different. We will do our best to communicate any notable shipping delays.
2. Since all of our orders process through PayPal, payment for any pre-orders will be processed at the time of order and not at the time of shipment.
3. If an order includes the new Orchid pattern, we will ship all other items at the same time. If you want other items sooner, you will have to place a separate order.
4. Don't forget to use the Code "Happy2014" at check out to save 20% on all our other patterns.
We hope you have a happy holiday and a great start to your (sewing) year!
